I’d never heard of white mangoes either. I’m told they grow only in Bali where they are called Wani Bali. The shape is somewhere between a mango and an avocado but the skin is more pear-like so slightly mottled, more easily broken and not as rubbery and thick its yellow sister.
Inside the white mango is a soft, sweet, fibrous flesh that bleeds a milky liquid as you slice through. The smell is not floral like a yellow mango, instead the sweetness has another edge. If I said that its nose headed in the direction of a durian, I’d have a point but also doing Wani Bali a disservice. It really has to be tried.
Today I whipped up into a smoothie:
1 banana
1/3 white mango
3 mangosteens
1/2 cup water
I blitzed them all up and voila! A creamy beauty was born to eat with my tomato and avocado open sandwiches.
Enjoy.
We serve a different smoothie every day on our retreats.
